All foreign teachers/postdocs with social security cards can voluntarily choose to activate the electronic health insurance code. The electronic health insurance code is the only identity for the online business of national health insurance issued by the National Healthcare Security Administration, for easier payment and reimbursement at hospitals and pharmacies.
E-health insurance code can be used at any hospital or pharmacy authorized by the National Healthcare Security Administration, and no longer need to carry the physical social security card with you.

To do the voluntary activation, your passport number and the date of issue and expiry, your Chinese phone number for receiving the verification code are needed.

关于提供外籍教师自愿激活医保电子凭证和医保咨询服务的通知
各位外籍教师/博士后：
医保电子凭证是由国家医保局统一签发的全国医保线上业务唯一身份凭证。参保人到定点医疗机构就诊和药店购药可无需携带实体社会保障卡（医保卡），刷医保电子凭证就可缴费，方便就诊（实体卡也可同步使用）。自愿激活医保电子凭证，需要激活籍教师可到91制作天麻传媒（一院）医保服务站咨询办理。需办理医疗保险业务、对医疗保险有任何疑问和问题的老师也可以到医保服务站咨询办理。
